A significant crackdown on gang violence in Manhattan has led to the indictment of 16 gang members tied to 21 shootings, as announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch. Spanning several months, the alleged violent spree predominately took place from March to September 2024, with shootings concentrated in the NYPD's 23rd precinct in East Harlem, as per the Manhattan D.A.'s office.

The charged individuals are reportedly linked to the LA World and Wuski gangs, embroiled in a deadly feud. Nearly half of all shooting incidents in that East Harlem precinct were attributed to this conflict. Fifteen firearms were recovered during the investigation. Court documents cited by the Manhattan D.A.'s office allege a cycle of retaliation that began with the murder of an LA World member and spiraled into a broader gang war.

In response to these events, DA Bragg highlighted the importance of the indictments for public safety, stressing the complete lack of tolerance for widespread and indiscriminate gun violence. He pointed out that while such legal action is crucial, it alone is insufficient, highlighting ongoing work with community partners to prevent gun violence among youth. This strategic approach, according to Bragg, has contributed to a significant reduction in shootings in Manhattan.

Mayor Eric Adams underscored the impact a relatively small number of individuals can inflict on community safety, “We are not going to stand by while a small number of violent offenders terrorize our neighbors and our children. The suspects in this indictment were allegedly responsible for half of the shooting and shots fired incidents in a six-month period last year in a precinct in East Harlem. Just 16 people accused of 50 percent of an entire precinct’s shootings — let that sink in. This is what we are talking about when we say that there are often a small number of people who are causing a large share of crimes across our city, and that’s why this indictment and the removal of these criminals from our streets is vital in making our city safer,” he mentioned in a sentiment, as obtained by the Manhattan D.A's office. Adams credited the partnership between his office, the DA's office, and the dedication of NYPD personnel for helping New York City maintain its standing as one of the safest large cities in the nation.

Commissioner Tisch described the violence as a "months-long cycle" that instilled fear across East Harlem. She praised targeted cases and precision policing for helping to secure historic lows in citywide shootings. The collaboration between NYPD and the Manhattan D.A.’s Office was pivotal in addressing the issue and bringing the alleged violent offenders to justice.

Among the accused, LA World member Xavier Roberts and Wuski members such as Prince Bouche and Aaden Williams were highlighted for their roles in the shootings. Evidence logged by investigators includes messages exchanged on social media platforms like Instagram and Telegram, planning and discussing shootings, as well as sharing Citizen App notifications of the violent acts among each other.

The prosecution of the case falls under the guidance of Assistant D.A.s Rachel Movius and Sean Flatow, with assistance from various investigative analysts and digital forensic examiners, as noted by the Manhattan D.A.'s office. Expressing gratitude for the collaborative effort, D.A. Bragg acknowledged detective and supervisory teams across multiple NYPD precincts for their extensive contributions to the case.
