Last week, residents of the Westchase area were confronted with a blaze that tore through an apartment building, causing an estimated $1 million in damage. According to the City of Houston official statements, the incident occurred last Saturday at around 6:03 p.m at 2851 Wallingford Dr., where firefighters grappled with a fire that broke through the roof of a two-story residential complex.

The fire's violence was such that residents were forced to evacuate as firefighters launched an offensive pitted against flames that refused to relent. "All occupants were confirmed to be out of the building," the City of Houston report detailed, speaking to the diligence of emergency crews who ensured no lives were harmed in the raging inferno.

The building lost its roof, the second floor was badly damaged, and water leaked into the apartments below. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the damage has forced people out of their homes. The American Red Cross is now helping those who were displaced, as per the City of Houston.

An investigation is currently underway to unearth the cause of the fire. The coordinated response drawn by Houston firefighters saw 56 personnel from various stations, including Stations 76, 2, 78, 83, 57, 60, 69, 75, 10, 49 and Rescue 10, execute a containment strategy, as reported by the City of Houston.
