As the community gears up for the Good Friday holiday, residents of Maui County should note the upcoming changes in county services. According to the official County of Maui website, multiple county offices and facilities will be taking a break tomorrow, April 18, in observance of the holiday.
Among the closures are all County of Maui offices, public pools, and the Lahaina Resource Center, signalling a quiet day for public administration and recreation alike. Additionally, landfills in Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi will not be in operation, so residents should plan their waste disposal accordingly. The Recovery Permit Center at the County of Maui Service Center in Kahului will also be shuttered for the day.
For those who need to make use of the Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost, or the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center, there's a glimmer of normalcy with condensed holiday hours in effect from 6 a.m. to noon, and from 8 a.m. to noon, respectively. This adjusted schedule ensures that while services are limited, they are not entirely out of reach for residents.
Those reliant on the county's trash pickup services and the Maui Bus can breathe easy, as there will be no changes to these services on Good Friday. Come the following Monday, April 21, it's back to business as usual with county offices reopening and services resuming their regular rhythms.
