The County of Maui recently held an event at the Kalana O Maui County building to recognize the contributions of local volunteers. During the 2025 Volunteer Heroes event, twenty-one individuals received certificates of recognition. The event, organized by HandsOn Maui, the County Volunteer Center, honored volunteers who have supported various nonprofits, including homeless shelters and wildlife refuges, as reported by the County of Maui.

According to the County of Maui, Mayor Richard Bissen emphasized the importance of volunteers during National Volunteer Week. He said, "Volunteers are the backbone of our local nonprofits, providing essential time, energy and passion that drive our missions forward and make a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve." The event provided an opportunity for nonprofit organizations from Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi to recognize volunteers who have made a significant impact.

HandsOn Maui is recognizing volunteers for their work in various community missions, including Paulette Scheffer of Upcountry Strong Inc., Eric Baizer of East Maui Animal Refuge, and Sarah Sorenson of Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers. Other honorees include Dylan Martins from the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and Ivy Campbell from Friends of Haleakalā National Park. The recognition continues throughout April on HandsOn Maui’s Facebook and Instagram platforms.
