
A medical helicopter crash in Hartford, Illinois, near St. Louis, has left three crew members with injuries after an incident that occurred late Thursday night. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the helicopter, which was on the verge of takeoff, encountered trouble and came to an abrupt, troubling halt in the suburban stretch of St. Louis.
Local officials disclosed that the three individuals aboard the helicopter, which included the pilot and two crew members, were rescued from the wreckage before it became engrossed in flames. After taking off from a local fire station, the helicopter, operated by Air Methods, met fate with the unexpected disaster, which resulted in the hospitalization of its crew members, with their condition yet to be publicly shared.
The area around North Delmar and Date Street, now marked by the char of a once service-ready chopper, was undergoing what CBS Chicago described as helicopter training when the accident unfolded around 9 p.m. Air Methods also confirmed the crew hailed from Granite City, Illinois, and were actively engaged in what should have been routine maneuvers when tragedy beset their flight path.
Eyewitnesses recounted to KMOV that the crash happened just as the helicopter lifted from the ground, teetering on the edge of ascension. Yet the cause remains unknown, with investigators delving into the matter to unearth what led to the aircraft's premature descent.
