Last night, the Mesquite Police Department honored its own and several locals for their contributions to public safety during its Annual Awards Ceremony. According to a post on the department's official Facebook page, the event recognized outstanding efforts in conjunction with a meeting of the City Council.
The awards lineup included a Police Certificate of Merit, six Life Saving Awards, three Police Commendation Awards, a Meritorious Award, and a Medal of Valor. Investigator Sparling was recognized with the H. Kent Tyler Award, being named Officer of the Year for his exemplary service. Meanwhile, Telecommunications Operator Charity Park was honored as Civilian of the Year, her dedication and professionalism coming into clear focus.
The ceremony wasn't only to celebrate those in uniform. Two community members, Gregg Everett and Marina Mueller, were commended for their acts that left indelible imprints on public safety efforts—Everett for his assistance during an investigation and Mueller for her role in a child rescue that ensured the young individual received much-needed emergency care.
The Mesquite Police Department's social media post warmly recognized the community's role, stating, "We are deeply grateful for the commitment, bravery, and compassion shown by our officers, staff, and community." The thanks were broad and heartfelt, extending to all who play a role in fostering a safe environment.
