In a recent takedown, the Metropolitan Police Department has apprehended a suspect following the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service employee. The incident occurred Tuesday, April 1, in the vicinity of the 4800 block of 3rd Street, Northwest, when the suspect, gun in hand, cornered the mail carrier around 5:51 p.m. and demanded their belongings, as per the Metropolitan Police Department.
Complying with the assailant's demands, the victim handed over their property, after which the suspect made a brisk escape. Fortunately, shortly after, officers made a routine traffic stop and identified and arrested 20-year-old Hennok Woldu from the Northwest area. During the stop, they made an arrest while canvassing the area for him.
Woldu now faces several charges, including Robbery, Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Receiving Stolen Property. These allegations reveal the complexities and perils that postal workers face in their day-to-day duties, particularly in urban settings where the risk of such confrontations can loom.
