Authorities in Miami-Dade County made a substantial drug bust, seizing more than half a ton of narcotics from a boat. The vessel was suspected to be used for smuggling illegal substances. In a joint operation, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, along with Customs and Border Protection agents, intercepted and escorted the vessel to Miami Beach, as reported by WSVN.
On board the boat, authorities deployed a K-9 unit which uncovered the narcotics, amounting to 1,150 pounds, stashed inside the cabin. With the substances secured, two individuals associated with the vessel were taken into custody. The seizure is part of an effort labeled as Operation Tidal Wave, where Florida officials are cracking down on immigration enforcement with various agencies involved, noted NBC Miami. Patrolling by the FWC officers led to the spotting of the suspected vessel, subsequently leading to the discovery and arrests.
The exact details of the narcotics have not been made public. FWC officials expressed their commitment to disrupting illegal drug trafficking. Following the bust, the drugs were confiscated and added to the inventory of evidence for what would soon become a legal battle for the two who were arrested. Information about the nature of the charges against the accused has not been released at this time.
