In a heartening display of prompt action, Michigan State Police troopers successfully rescued a 4-year-old Boston Terrier named "Potato" after it was found running along I-75 in Holly Township. WWJ Newsradio reports that the incident occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. yesterday, when troopers responded to calls of a stray dog on the busy freeway.

According to a post from the MSP Second District's social media, troopers arrived on the scene to discover multiple individuals, moved by concern or instinct, had already stepped out of their vehicles, recklessly chasing the frightened canine across travel lanes as cars continued to speed by, luckily without someone getting hurt; troopers managed to corral these well-meaning but misguided civilians back into their cars before embarking on the pursuit of Potato themselves.

The dog was eventually located away from the freeway and identified through a collar tag. First Lieutenant Mike Shaw highlighted the danger of the situation, urging the public in a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio, "We know it is a natural instinct to jump out of your car and try to catch a dog on the freeway. The better plan is to call 911 so responders can stop the traffic before someone gets hurt."

Potato was returned to her owner, seated in the front seat of a patrol car, no doubt relieved to be out of harm's way, with troopers receiving praise for their swift and effective response; Shaw reiterated, as per MSP Second District,  "Drivers actually make the situation worse as they may chase the dog into the traffic lanes or even run in front of moving traffic themselves."
