Open Streets Minneapolis, the city's annual initiative transforming urban roads into pedestrian playgrounds, has announced its lineup for the 2025 season. The four chosen organizations responsible for hosting these community-centric street fairs were revealed by the City of Minneapolis, as seen on the official city website. The decision, which surfaced following a rigorous RFP process, paves the way for a series of vibrant events designed to celebrate local culture while promoting connection and enjoyment among residents.

According to the city's announcement, these events are a venture to repurpose our usual vehicular routes into something more lively and aesthetically communal. "We're excited to transform major business and commercial corridors into car-free fairs for all ages to enjoy," City Operations Officer Margaret Anderson Kelliher stated. From Central Ave. corridors to the bustling Hennepin Ave., it seems there's no street too storied for an Open Streets makeover. The fairs are confirmed to kick off on Aug. 2, 2025, with the first event taking place on Central Ave., ranging from 26th Ave. to 14th Ave., under the guidance of the Audubon Neighborhood Association.

The forthcoming Open Streets season is expected to surpass the estimated 75,000 attendees of last year's series. Each event aims to foster an atmosphere where neighbors can relish in a rich tapestry of cultural festivities, entertainment, activities, and the chance to support local vendors. The calendar features events on Aug. 17, along Cedar Ave and Riverside Ave, orchestrated by the West Bank Business Association. The gatherings continue on Sept. 6, 2025, on West Broadway with the West Broadway Business & Area Coalition at the helm, and conclude with a finale on Sept. 20, 2025, on Hennepin Ave., hosted by the Uptown Association.

Funding and resources for the 2025 season are robust. The City has committed up to $50,000 for each event's expenses, along with offering in-kind City services valued at $65,000. These contributions highlight the City's investment in these community enclaves and their unyielding devotion to steward such streets, into arenas of togetherness and civic pride. With approval from the City Council's Administration and Enterprise Oversight Committee already in the bag, the proposed contracts are set to be deliberated by the full council on April 17 as they continue cementing the framework for these eagerly awaited open-air festivities.
