Minnesota's water future has become a focus of state efforts with the recent appointment of State Senator Ann Johnson Stewart to the Attorney General’s Advisory Task Force on the Future of Minnesota’s Water. According to Senate DFL, the task force is set to explore the challenges and strategies surrounding the management and conservation of the state's vital water resources.
Senator Johnson Stewart's background in civil engineering, paired with her experience as a business owner and academic, makes her an asset to the panel. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy selected her because of her role in infrastructure, water resources, and sustainability. The group is tasked with digging into best practices and developing recommendations applicable to policymakers, advocacy groups, and Minnesotans at large, aiming to safeguard water resources not just for the present but for the tribulations and the triumphs the future may hold.
The task force is a direct response to growing concerns about environmental resource management and aims to be a comprehensive effort across various sectors. "Being good stewards of our water resources has been a guiding principle of not just my time in the legislature but my entire career," Senator Johnson Stewart said, in a statement obtained by Senate DFL. Her commitment is echoed in the task force’s mission to ensure that sustainable infrastructure is in place so "every Minnesotan can safely drink the water from their kitchen faucet."
The Attorney General’s advisory team marks an instrumental move, signalling heightened vigilance over Minnesota's water resource management.
