Yesterday, Montgomery County Police, with support from Maryland State Police, brought a stretch of Interstate 270 to a standstill as they engaged in what might seem like an extreme response to a pedestrian incident. According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, the interruption of the daily commute was part of the protocol to handle the on-foot reappearance of a person reported critically missing in Manassas, VA.
The individual's abandoned vehicle, first reported at about 11:49 a.m. on Longwood Drive near the Beltway retaining wall, triggered the search. In a fortuitous turn, the missing person, whose name has not been disclosed, was soon spotted by various witnesses navigating the precarious seclusion of the Beltway and I-270's expansive lanes.
This alignment of urgency and observance led officers to their location: seated squarely on the interstate's center median near Rockledge Boulevard.
