The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be implementing closures on the eastbound exit ramp from Interstate 70 to Boone County Routes O and J at Exit 117 for pavement repair, starting Sunday night. According to a statement on their official website, the closing process is set to commence at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13, and is expected to regain function by the morning rush hour at 6 a.m. Monday, April 14, travelers should prepare for these temporary changes affecting their routes.
During this period, the driving (right-hand) lane of eastbound I-70 near the exit will also be shut down; however, MoDOT assures that the passing lane will remain open to keep the traffic flowing. In a recent post from MoDOT, the department highlighted that it is crucial for the safety of both the workers on-site and the public traveling, to necessitate such closures for the intended work to be carried out efficiently and safely.
Although the eastbound disruptions might pose a temporary inconvenience, MoDOT states that the westbound ramps at Exit 117 and the on-ramp from Routes O and J to eastbound I-70 are not to be affected by the scheduled maintenance. For those needing to access Routes O and J, an alternative route via Exit 121 at U.S. Route 40/Route UU will be available, guiding motorist to loop back to Exit 117 on the westbound side of the interstate.
Motorists are reminded to remain vigilant and follow the rules set forth for their safety, as the work is subject to weather conditions, and the schedule may undergo changes, safety is the utmost priority, and adjusting to these modifications is vital for everyone involved. MoDOT calls for drivers' collaboration with the plea: "work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
In furtherance of road safety, MoDOT advises the public to heed caution when navigating work zones by obeying all signage and minimizing distractions to ensure everyone's safety. Motorists are advised to "use extra caution through work zones, obey all traffic signs, and avoid any distractions," reinforcing the call for communal adherence to traffic laws and mindfulness of those working to improve the roadways for the future.
