A 20-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with a SunRail train in Orlando, causing significant delays and cancellations across the rail network. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at approximately 12:38 p.m. near the intersection of Intermodal Way and Central Florida Parkway. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man's motorcycle was stopped on the tracks when the southbound train struck it, causing the bike to catch fire.
The immediate aftermath presented a dramatic scene, with one passenger, Devonte Buyckes, recounting to WFTV, "All of a sudden, there’s fire and flames along the window. You could feel the heat from the window. People started screaming, and it came screeching to a stop." No injuries were reported among the 58 passengers or the three crew members aboard the train at the time of the collision. Nevertheless, the event caused an understandable disruption, with SunRail implementing a bus bridge between the Sand Lake Road and Poinciana stations while officials conducted their investigation.
Meanwhile, service impacts persisted throughout the day. According to a statement detailed by WESH, SunRail announced the cancellation of several trains, including P319 SB, P320 NB, and P328 NB. By around 9:40 p.m., all trains were reported to have resumed their regular schedule.
