A three-vehicle collision on Sunday occurred on Kūhiō Highway in Kīlauea around 5:30 p.m. The Kauaʻi Police Department reported that a white 2024 Chevrolet SUV crossed the median and collided with two other vehicles. Local law enforcement responded to the scene, according to the County of Kauai.
A Chevrolet SUV traveling southbound first hit a white 2021 Toyota truck, then struck a gray 2023 Chevrolet SUV. The 60-year-old man driving the Toyota was injured, and his 58-year-old passenger was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. The driver of the second Chevrolet SUV was treated at Wilcox Medical Center. The driver of the Toyota truck was unharmed, as stated by the County of Kauai.
Kūhiō Highway was closed for about three hours after a collision while the Traffic Safety Section investigated. Initial reports showed that speed and impairment were not factors.
