South Boston experienced significant disruption this past weekend when police responded to reports of over a hundred juveniles causing a disturbance at South Bay Plaza. According to the report, officers arrived at the scene around 5:25 p.m. and found multiple juveniles engaged in physical altercations and throwing objects at passersby from a parking garage, as detailed in a news release by the Boston Police Department regarding the events of Saturday evening.
The situation escalated when, after being advised to leave, the group reconvened at a nearby bus stop on Allstate Road, where more fights broke out and officers had to intervene resulting in two 14-year-olds being arrested; meanwhile, a 13-year-old resisted and struck an officer. The group's dispersal saw a continued defiance with a 13-year-old female shouting and striking an officer in the nose, all arrested were charged with varying accounts including assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, facing arraignment in Boston Juvenile Court.
However, the disturbance didn't end there, in a turn of events, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old female were seen aiming pellet rifles at individuals, with the later male pushing an officer in the chest after disarming the pellet rifle from the 17-year-old who pulled the trigger. The female fled only to be arrested later at District C-6 where she turned herself in.
Both teens were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon among other charges; the male faced additional charges including assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, their arraignment is also set for Boston Juvenile Court.
