Scammers are now impersonating the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, using real names of employees like Sergeant Brandon White and Captain Derrick Peterson to appear legitimate. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office reported the scam on Thursday in a social media post.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a phone scam. Scammers pose as deputies, use fake badge numbers, and spoof caller ID to look official. They claim the victim missed jury duty or has unpaid fines, then demand payment by gift card, cash app, or cryptocurrency.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page, scammers are impersonating officers and demanding payment over the phone for missed jury duty, warrants, or tickets. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office does not collect payments by phone. Hang up and verify any claims by calling Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office or visiting their website.
