The Nassau County Police Department is seeking assistance in locating a missing Democratic candidate for the county legislature, Petros Krommidas, who was last seen in Baldwin last Wednesday. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing approximately 230 pounds, Krommidas was last observed wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. According to NBC New York, the 29-year-old candidate for Nassau County's fourth district has been missing for nearly a week.
Krommidas was reported missing the day after he was last seen. Police believe he may be in the Long Beach area of Long Island. The local Democratic Party, where Krommidas serves as a field organizer and clerk, has used social media to help expand the search. "We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas," stated county Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs, a sentiment he shared with NBC New York. "Petros is a bright, driven young man who has been a strong voice for Democratic values. He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders."
Before his disappearance, Krommidas was active in engaging with young community members, evident in a Facebook post last Tuesday where he celebrated his interaction with Nassau County Young Democrats. "Always great to be with such a thoughtful, engaged group committed to making a difference in our community," Krommidas wrote in an update that would be his last before he went missing. The Fourth District seat he is seeking is currently held by Republican Patrick Mullaney and covers areas including Long Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Lido Beach, this news was recounted by NY Daily News.
Alongside efforts by local law enforcement, friends and colleagues of Krommidas have launched grassroots campaigns across social media platforms to support the search for the legislative candidate.
