
A New Bedford man has died following a three-car collision on Interstate 195, according to Massachusetts State Police. The tragedy unfolded near Dartmouth yesterday morning, around 11:20 A.M., as reported by Boston 25 News. The accident involved a tractor-trailer and led to the closure of the westbound lanes for several hours.
Deceased at the scene was Anthony Moniz, a 62-year-old man from New Bedford. Upon receiving a call indicating that a man was not breathing at the crash site, emergency services rushed to the location, and Dorchester EMS subsequently declared Moniz dead at the location, not far from where the crash was announced by the caller. The SouthCoastToday notes that several specialized units, including the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, were involved in the response to the fatal incident.
Traffic on I-195 west was disrupted for about three hours and resumed normal flow at 2:35 P.M. The reopening came after a comprehensive on-scene investigation by authorities, who are continuing to look into the precise circumstances behind the collision. No further information about the cause of the accident or the involvement of other passengers has been released at this time.
The Massachusetts State Police extended their condolences to the family and loved ones of Moniz, as was stated in a release.
