Residents and visitors to Downtown New Braunfels should prepare to adapt to new parking rules as the City Council moves forward with a modernized parking system aimed at easing congestion and improving accessibility. As reported by the City of New Braunfels, after extensive research and community input, a contract was approved in March 2025, positioning Interstate Parking as the new parking management firm for Downtown New Braunfels and its river parks. With the river park portion already in effect, downtown parking management is scheduled to commence in June 2025, pending further council approval.

Proposed changes include segmented zones for free and paid parking to both on-street and off-street locations, aiming to better accommodate consumer demand. As detailed in an announcement from the City of New Braunfels, the first hour of on-street parking will be free, after which a $2 per hour charge will apply, capping at a $10 daily fee, not including processing costs. Enforcement is set to be active daily between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Payment will be simple, avoiding traditional kiosks for QR codes on signs which drivers will scan to quickly input their details and payment information, with additional options to pay-by-text or phone. Notably, disabled veterans are to be exempt from these fees.

Violators can expect to be issued a $100 parking citation, reduced to $65 if paid within 10 days. To aid the transition and enforce the new system, Interstate Parking plans to introduce Parking Ambassadors to assist drivers in finding spots and managing their payments, besides monitoring for infractions. The company also intends to open a local office downtown, further embedding itself within the community it serves.

In anticipation of these changes, the city has organized two public open house events offering residents the opportunity to gain more insight and provide feedback. According to the official city announcement, these events are scheduled for May 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and May 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., held at the New Braunfels Municipal Building. For those seeking more details or who are unable to attend, resources including maps showing current and proposed parking spaces can be found on the city website, or by reaching out directly to Interstate Parking.
