
An early morning tragedy unfolded in New Orleans as two men were found dead, the result of gunshot wounds, in a home in the 1700 block of Rousselin Street, a reported welfare check at approximately 12:50 a.m. led NOPD officers to the grisly scene, WWLTV details the initial discovery of the victims, whose identities have not been disclosed at the time.
Subsequently, around 1:20 a.m., NOPD responded to reports of an "adult white male" brandishing a firearm on Royal Street, leading to a standoff that concluded just before 6 a.m. after extending more than four hours, NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick was on-scene witnessing as the standoff unfolded on Royal Street, near the busy and tourist-heavy French Quarter, which caused a considerable police presence in the area as the situation developed where no injuries were reported following an officer firing their weapon in response to a shot from the suspect, according to Kirkpatrick's statement obtained by NOLA.COM.
The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 39-year-old Jared Asher Pawlus, has a previous record of arrest for possession of amphetamine in 2020; he was taken into custody using non-lethal munitions and transported for treatment and evaluation, before his booking into the Orleans Parish Justice Center is completed, this detail and the suspect's name were disclosed by FOX8.
