The New Orleans Police Department has released its latest compilation of crime statistics for the week of April 13-19, as part of their ongoing efforts to keep the public informed about crime trends in the area. According to the preliminary report made available by the NOPD Analytics Unit, which, is subject to further analysis and revision, there were several notable arrests during this period alongside a year-to-date comparison of gun-related arrests and seizures.

In a significant incident on April 13, NOPD officers arrested Christopher Parker, identified as a black male born on May 29, 1999, after a reported shooting at the intersection of Decatur and Iberville streets. This confrontation led to five individuals being wounded. "Two firearms were recovered on scene," NOPD News reports. Parker faces charges that include five counts of aggravated second-degree battery and one count of illegal use of weapons.

Furthermore, the data reveals a noticeable decline in the number of gun-related arrests this year compared to the prior one. At present, the NOPD has made 106 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm, marking a significant 51-percent decrease from the same period in 2024. This downturn suggests that either the prevalence of illegal firearms has decreased, the effectiveness of policing strategies has increased, or a combination of both is at play.

Similarly, there has been a downturn in the number of firearms seized during criminal investigations. "Additionally, as of April 13, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 538 firearms in criminal investigations," the NOPD stated, recording a 34-percent decrease when measured against the 820 seizures during the same timeframe in 2024.
