The New Orleans Police Department is turning to social media to help track down a suspect linked to a recent bike theft, and they're calling on the community to assist in the search. In a Facebook post, New Orleans Police Department released details of the wanted individual, Derick Mica Gauthreaux, a white male born on November 7, 1986. The post included a picture of Gauthreaux for identification.
According to NOPD's social media outreach, Gauthreaux was pinpointed as the person who allegedly stole an Marin-brand mountain bike on April 12, from the 800 block of Frenchmen Street. The NOPD is urging anyone with knowledge pertaining the incident or Gauthreaux's whereabouts to get in touch. They provided two ways to make contact: calling Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080 or reaching out to Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111.
Theft, especially in a city that thrums with life like New Orleans, often seems like a story told too many times. Yet each instance carries its own weight, bearing down on the individual victims. The theft of something as personal and vital as a bicycle can disrupt the rhythms of daily life, the commutes, the sense of security. NOPD’s appeal to the public reflects an understanding of these small but significant disruptions.
