A jury in Newton County has convicted 30-year-old Shane Alexander Robinson of Covington of the felony murder of Charles Edward Stanley III. The verdict, which also included charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, came after Robinson faced trial for an incident that occurred on the night of March 5, 2022, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to the Office of the District Attorney in Newton County, Shane Robinson used an AR-style rifle to fire 13 times into Stanley's vehicle while on Harvey Wood Drive in an event that has culminated, three years later, in legal recompense Robinson, who initially sought to "scare" Stanley according to a 2022 arrest warrant obtained by The Covington News, admitted to firing several rounds at Stanley's vehicle as it withdrew and drove away, a statement that was part of the evidence that appears to have swayed the jury in reaching their decision.
The incident's specifics reveal a premeditated chase where Robinson "grabbed his AR-15 (rifle) and drove" from his residence directly to the site of the shooting with fatal consequences, the arrest warrant further detailed that Robinson claimed aim was to "scare" his eventual victim. As the prosecution presented their case, the recounting of events painted a grisly picture of premeditated violence while family members of both involved parties awaited closure from this judicial process.
