An off-duty firefighter from Gulfport found himself on the wrong side of the law early earlier today. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Scott Miller was arrested for driving under the influence after deputies caught him speeding through a residential area at speeds surpassing 100 MPH.
The incident took place near Pasadena Avenue and Park Street, where deputies noticed Miller's Ford F150 pickup truck driving at reckless velocities. When they pulled him over around 12:58 a.m., Miller showed several signs of impairment, including a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and bloodshot, glassy eyes. The statement from the Sheriff's Office noted that Miller refused to perform field sobriety tests and declined to provide a breath sample.
Miller, who is employed by the Gulfport Fire Department, now faces one count of DUI and has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail. His arrest shines a light on issues of accountability and the responsibilities of public servants to uphold not just the law but also the public trust.
