A 64-year-old Ohio man, Michael Dietz, was arrested after a vindictive act of vandalism targeted a Westlake woman's property, as reported by WMTV 15 News. Police responded to a call early Thursday morning to find the front of the victim's home and her vehicle marred by black spray paint and an attempt at gas tank sabotage with sugar.
The animosity stemmed from a year-old car crash between Dietz and the victim, and it had fermented into a destructive morning occurrence, with the Westlake Police obtaining Ring camera footage showing a suspect, believed to be Dietz, committing the deed, and Dietz later conceded to the vandalism in a statement obtained by WKYC. He blamed his actions on back pain and dissatisfaction with how the case had been handled, later telling police, "That b---- is lucky I didn't go over there with a .357 and start shooting the place up."
Westlake Police reported on the arrest of Dietz for the vandalism, in which the homeowner's garage door was defaced with the word "a**hole," as News 5 Cleveland detailed. The resident alerted authorities at around 7:01 a.m. after discovering the damage, and Dietz's residence was subsequently visited by police officers, who made the arrest.
Charges against Dietz include vandalism and aggravated menacing. The case has been bound over to a Cuyahoga County grand jury following the presentation of evidence, including the Ring camera footage, paint can remnants, and bags of sugar found at the scene. According to reports by both WKYC and News 5 Cleveland, the homeowner recognized Dietz as an individual familiar to her, possibly as her former neighbor.
