Commuters in Oklahoma City experienced significant delays Friday morning following a semi-truck accident on Interstate 40. According to KOCO, the westbound lanes of I-40 at the junction with Interstate 35 were closed around 5:45 a.m. after a semi-trailer jackknifed, leading to the interstate's shutdown heading toward downtown Oklahoma City. Traffic was impacted for more than an hour as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Many drivers were advised to exercise caution near the Fort Smith Junction as emergency crews were still handling the aftermath of the collision involving the semi truck and a vehicle. Even though it was reopened shortly after 7:20 a.m., the initial closure caused substantial traffic backups. Reporting from the scene, KFOR noted that the specifics of the accident, including potential injuries, were not immediately clear.
Recovery of the area had been successful by later in the morning, with News 9 reporting that the scene of the wreck, which occurred just before 6 a.m., was clear. Even though all lanes of westbound I-40 were closed for over an hour, there was a smooth transition back to normal traffic flow following the opening.
