News 9 reported that a house on Southwest 90th Street, near Rockwell Avenue, was set ablaze following a lightning strike on Friday morning, with the fire starting around 8 a.m. The flames were tackled without report of injuries.
Meanwhile, KFOR shared details from the scene, where the homeowner heard a loud noise prior to the onset of the fire. "The homeowner heard a loud noise and then smelled smoke before calling 911," indicating the abrupt nature of the incident which disrupted the typically peaceful neighborhood. The fire department's prompt response underscored the urgency of these dangerous occurrences.
The day further proved challenging for the Oklahoma City Fire Department, as at least one other lightning-induced fire was confirmed. A residence near Morgan and Memorial roads also fell victim to the storm’s ferocity. KOCO 5 reported that officials attributed both of the house fires to lightning strikes. Their crews were dispatched swiftly to contain the fires and avert further disaster, ensuring that no injuries were reported with either fire.
