A tragic three-vehicle mishap in Baltimore County this morning has left one person dead and several others injured. As reported by Maryland State Police, the collision occurred just before 3:30 a.m. yesterday on southbound Interstate 95 at the Interstate 695 interchange.
The deadly chain of events began when an unidentified individual's Jeep Cherokee hit a dump truck from behind for reasons not yet clear. Following this initial collision, the Jeep stopped in a travel lane, and it's believed that the Jeep's driver exited the vehicle. What unfolded next was the Jeep's driver being struck by an oncoming Subaru, which also resulted in the Subaru colliding with the dump truck.
Upon the authorities' arrival, the driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene, their identity withheld pending notification of kin. The 50-year-old dump truck driver and a 51-year-old passenger were transported along with the 24-year-old female Subaru driver to local hospitals to receive medical attention for their injuries. While the investigation is ongoing, Maryland State Police have not yet determined the cause of the collision.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team has now taken the lead in the investigation, which remains active. Drivers who witnessed the crash or have any relevant information are encouraged to come forward to help shed light on the tragic event.
