A tragic event unfolded on Route 6 in Harwich, Massachusetts, as a car crash took the life of one individual, confirmed by state police. Yesterday evening, the fatal incident occurred near the 84-mile marker on Route 6, prompting authorities to shut down traffic in both directions. The disruption to the flow of vehicles persisted for hours, with normalcy returning only after a thorough investigation at the scene.
Responding to the calamity around 5:30 p.m., NBC Boston reports that Massachusetts State Police were on-site, where an occupant suffered fatal injuries. The sealed-off stretch, spanning from Exits 82 to 85, was a disrupted passage for many until it reopened later that evening at approximately 9:45 p.m.
As the heart of the investigation beat, officials remained tight-lipped. The identity of the victim was withheld, as per the usual protocol, while authorities continued to peel back the layers of what led to such an abrupt end of a journey, as indicated in a statement by WCVB. Details surrounding the crash and potential other injuries have yet to be brought to light.
A head-on collision is what triggered the events, according to footage shared in a CapeCod video report. The crash, which implicated a Toyota Tacoma pickup and a Ford Transit van, was just west of the Route 137 exit. While the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS) of the Mass State Police was called onto the scene, this service, along with State Police Detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office, unfolded their skills to reconstruct the moments that led to the unfortunate demise of the individual.
