At this free, public gathering, dog owners can indulge in crafting at a doggy hat decorating station, which will prepare pooches for the best hat contest, a nod to the sartorial spectacle synonymous with the Kentucky Derby. Moreover, while the dogs strut their gussied-up headwear, their humans can sip on (nonalcoholic) mint juleps – the event's take on the traditional derby libation, according to the City of Mesquite.
Those looking for a new furry family member can take heart, for Mesquite Animal Services will facilitate pet adoptions onsite.
