An Orlando man, Ronald Davis, 55, was sentenced to life in prison for a home invasion that resulted in the death of an 85-year-old woman, Lucy Pat Curl. Davis entered a guilty plea in court last Tuesday, marking a sudden shift from his prior not-guilty stance. His life sentence covers multiple charges, including a first-degree murder conviction in connection with Lucy's death, which took place during the January home invasion, as reported by FOX 35 News.
According to WESH, Davis, who previously served a 15-year sentence for burglary and robbery, was apprehended by police after leaving his wallet and driver's license at the scene of his crime. During the court session, the victim's husband, Bill Curl, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Orlando, delivered an emotional testimony, opting to forgive the man who viciously took the life of his partner of over six decades, Lucy Pat, who was known for her half-century of service to her community and church.
Lucy Pat Curl was by herself at her Caribbean Court home when Davis posed as a community services officer and forced his entry, leading to the brutal attack that ultimately claimed her life. In addition to the murder charge, Davis also faced charges related to a burglary that happened nearby in 2024. Lucy had contributed over 50 years of volunteer work at her church and was remembered for her devotion to local causes and her community.
The courtroom witnessed an unusual moment of clemency when Pastor Bill Curl, in an act of profound personal grace, transcended the deep personal loss to extend forgiveness to Davis, underlining his intention with the hope that Davis might one day come to know Jesus. "He obviously knows what he did. He obviously should be punished for what he did but that doesn't negate forgiveness," Pastor Curl stated, as reported by The Christian Post.
Ronald Davis has 30 days following the sentencing to appeal his conviction. Lucy Pat Curl is survived by her husband, four children, 15 grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren, marking a poignant reminder of the expansive family legacy violently disrupted by the January home invasion.
