Osage County is poised to roll out accessibility enhancements starting next week, as part of a broader initiative stretching across multiple counties to advance pedestrian facilities. These upgrades come in the form of new sidewalks, curb ramps, and pavement approaches, all aligned with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, so stated by MoDOT.

Following the awarding of a $1,408,000 contract to Aplex Inc. by the Missouri Department of Transportation earlier in April, the work is set to commence on Monday; this will see action in Linn on U.S. Route 50 between 11th Street and N. Lindwood Drive, the beginning of efforts that are set to unfold in various locations as the weather allows—namely, points across Boone, Callaway, and Phelps Counties, which includes major thoroughfares in Columbia as well as streets in both New Bloomfield and Sturgeon.

Motorists in these areas can expect temporary closures and some lane restrictions with flaggers present to direct intermittent single-lane traffic, all necessary for the construction to proceed securely. "By contract, the project is scheduled for completion by Dec. 1, 2025," highlighted by MoDOT

Given the upcoming flurry of construction activity, MoDOT has issued a plea to drivers in all affected zones: play it safe and smart, that means stick to simple safety steps—buckle up, put down those phones, heed the signs and when you see workers and equipment up ahead, take it slow and give them room; the announcement on the MoDOT page carried this imperative for all who traverse the construction zones.
