An Osceola County father has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal beating of his 6-year-old son, after the child drank out of a toilet in an attempt to quench his thirst. The verdict for Larry Rhodes Jr. comes following a harrowing investigation that revealed a severe case of child abuse, leading to the young victim's death in July 2022. Rhodes was found guilty of first-degree murder and multiple counts of child abuse, reported ClickOrlando.
Previously, in 2022, Rhodes and his girlfriend, Bianca Blaise, claimed that the incident in their Kissimmee hotel room was an accidental drowning. However, a detailed investigation, which included accounts of other residents who heard unsettling noises coming from the room and the concerning state of the other children present, found evidence of abuse and neglect, according to Local 12. In a session, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez described the brutality of the abuse: "First, the mother beat him," said Sheriff Lopez. "Then the father started repeatedly punching this little boy with closed fists. He punched him multiple times in the head and the stomach area. This was a 6-year-old child."
In addition to the life sentence, Rhodes was handed an extra 35 years for the child abuse charges. At the same time, Blaise currently awaits her sentencing after reportedly striking a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for her testimony against Rhodes.
