
In St. Charles County, more than $1 million in federal grant funding, part of National Community Development Week, is making a significant difference in the lives of residents. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and other programs are aiding nonprofits in providing essential services ranging from housing to transportation and healthcare access.
During this celebratory week, the county is highlighting accomplishments such as the provision of 250 medical rides to seniors, and disabled residents, assistance with home repairs for 65 households, and providing rent and utility support to prevent eviction for 50 families. These actions not only help individuals in need but also contribute to the overall stability and improvement of neighborhoods.
Robert Myers, the Director of Planning and Zoning, emphasized the programs' impact in a statement by St. Charles County. "These programs help real people every day,” Myers said. “Whether that’s getting to dialysis, getting your roof fixed, or getting help with rent."
The county also supports housing solutions with the HOME Program, which annually funnels approximately $400,000 into down payment assistance for new home buyers and construction of affordable homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, among other endeavors. Additionally, the Housing Choice Voucher program, in collaboration with NECAC, allocates over $6 million each year to aid low-income families secure housing. The Affordable Rental program, in association with Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service, focuses on acquiring and refurbishing homes for the most financially stricken, furnishing affordable rent alongside case management.
