The Oviedo Police Department and the local community are experiencing a profound loss following the death of Officer Jimmy Serrano-Torres III, age 36, who tragically died in a single-vehicle crash last Friday in the Lake Nona area of Orlando. As reported by WESH, the officer sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
Officer Serrano, who had been with the department since August 2021, was mourned by Police Chief Dale Coleman, who, in a statement detailed by FOX 35 Orlando, said, "Our department is heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Officer Serrano." Coleman added, "He was not only an outstanding officer, but also a bright light in our community." The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation by the Orlando Police Department, and it is currently unclear if Officer Serrano-Torres was on duty at the time of the accident.
The community will have the opportunity to pay their respects at his funeral, which is scheduled for Thursday at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Winter Park. In an announcement by ClickOrlando, the viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by services from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and speakers from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
