A tragic incident occurred Wednesday evening when a pedestrian was struck and killed during a vehicular collision near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the fatal event unfolded shortly after 5:30 p.m., involving a collision between a cargo van and a sedan. The aftermath led to the closure of the intersection, according to information from 8 News Now.
Further details revealed by police indicate that the pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, died at the scene due to injuries sustained. The crash, which is now recorded as the 48th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD's jurisdiction this year, took place as the Chevrolet van attempted to cross the intersection and the Audi was heading south. The Chevrolet "failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign and crossed the Audi's travel path, resulting in a collision," per News 3 LV. After the initial impact, the van spun and hit the pedestrian.
Authorities are now actively searching for the driver of the Chevrolet van who fled the scene following the crash. In contrast, the driver of the Audi TT involved in the accident stayed on site and cooperated with law enforcement and was found not to be impaired. Witnessing the van driver's departure, police now call upon the public for assistance. LVMPD urges anyone with information about the incident to reach out to their Collision Investigation Section or contact Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
As of now, the investigation by fatal detectives remains ongoing, with senior officers taking charge of the case. LVMPD's statement emphasizes the need for community help in gathering information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the driver responsible for the casualty.
