On Saturday evening, a pedestrian was struck in a serious injury traffic collision at the intersection of Gonzales Road and Oxnard Boulevard in Oxnard. According to the Oxnard Police Department's news release, a 60-year-old male Los Angeles resident, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. The incident occurred outside a designated crosswalk, where the man, a flower vendor, was reportedly attempting to retrieve buckets of flowers from the median.
The vehicle involved, a 2007 Infinity M35, was driven by 22-year-old Oxnard resident Harley Means. Following the collision, Means stopped his vehicle along the right shoulder of the road and contacted the authorities. The injured pedestrian was found by officers lying in the eastbound traffic lanes and was subsequently transported in critical condition to Ventura County Medical Center. Described as cooperating fully with the investigation, Means awaited the arrival of traffic investigators at the scene.
After their initial assessment, traffic investigators found no evidence indicating that speed, alcohol, or drugs were contributing factors in the accident. This, however, does not close the case, as the investigation remains active. Officials are urging anyone who might have witnessed the incident or who has further information to come forward.
