Last Saturday in Petaluma, an altercation involving a firearm led to the arrest of 19-year-old Gabriel Chavez. The Sonoma Sheriff's Office reported that around 10 PM, deputies responded to a situation on the 1000 block of Sonoma Mountain Road where Chavez, after being asked to move a pickup truck that was blocking a property's entrance, allegedly fired a handgun towards one of the individuals present.
According to a post by the Sonoma Sheriff, following the incident, Chavez attempted to leave the scene but eventually crashed the truck on the same road, leading to his and the passenger's detainment. It was there that authorities found an unregistered handgun along with five high-capacity magazines and 48 rounds of ammunition hidden in the nearby vegetation. The passenger, who was not charged with a crime, received medical attention at the hospital after the crash.
Chavez is currently facing serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, shooting from a vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm; other charges include exhibition of a loaded firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in public, and possession of high-capacity magazines. He remains in custody with bail set at $75,000.
