An 18-year-old Petaluma resident was arrested on charges of reckless driving after doing donuts and burnouts in broad daylight. Petaluma Police Department reported the incident occurred yesterday around 11:56 a.m., near B Street and Pierce Street.
According to the report from the Petaluma Police Department, the suspect, identified as James Leif Erickson, attracted attention with his seemingly out-of-control silver Infiniti G35. It wasn't long before calls flooded in, as onlookers took it upon themselves to inform the authorities about the hazardous display. The rush of calls did not only come from the location of the incident but also from the vehicle spotted zipping away from the scene.
One particularly observant citizen noticed the vehicle pull up on McNear Ave, after which the young driver, Erickson, entered a house. This information proved pivotal as officers arrived shortly thereafter to find the described vehicle, though devoid of its driver.
Erickson was promptly found at the residence and "ultimately identified by a witness as the driver of the vehicle during the incident." Erickson's vehicle faced impoundment for 30 days under CVC 23109.2, and Erickson himself was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the charges laid out. He had been arrested earlier in the year for the same offense, as per the Petaluma Police Department.
