A Pittsburgh man faces charges after officers broke up what they described as a sizable illegal street racing event. The gathering, which took place in Lawrenceville on March 14, reportedly comprised 50 to 60 vehicles involved in street racing, reckless and careless driving, and trespassing on private property.
Police responded to the scene in the 200 block of 48th Street, where, upon turning on their emergency lights and sirens, they observed individuals scattering to make their exit. During this time, a vehicle operated by 23-year-old William Bey attempted an escape to a nearby grass field and was promptly stopped. This ordeal was detailed in a public notice posted by the City of Pittsburgh's official website.
It was later discovered that Bey's vehicle harbored not only an expired driver's license and registration but also a large quantity of marijuana tucked under the driver's seat, at which point officers halted the inventory check and sought a search warrant, uncovering additional items, including a stolen firearm.
As a consequence, Bey is now charged with a series of violations that include receiving stolen property, persons not to possess, prohibited acts, and vehicle violations.
