A man, identified as Cord Cullen, was taken into custody late Wednesday following a SWAT situation in Pittsburgh’s Summer Hill neighborhood after he allegedly barricaded himself inside a residence. According to reports by WTAE, the incident began around 8:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Ivory Avenue, stemming from a domestic altercation.
The confrontation escalated when Cullen reportedly put his hand on his girlfriend, as she later told police. Carrying several guns in the home after he had been drinking, the woman informed officers that Cullen had previously talked about suicide. As the SWAT team came to the scene, responding to the home with multiple police vehicles, Cullen was taken into custody without incident a little less than three hours later, as per the report from WPXI.
TribLive echoed the account, detailing that the woman had warned authorities about the firearms in the house, which partially prompted the involvement of the SWAT team. After the standoff, which lasted approximately three hours, Cullen was apprehended.
Cullen, who is also an employee of the City of Pittsburgh, faces simple assault charges following the incident. After being taken into custody, he was transported to the hospital and is expected to be moved to the Allegheny County Jail, as the sources confirmed.
