A child sustained serious injuries following a dog bite incident in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood. Officers from Zone 3 and Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel responded to a 911 call just after 1:30 p.m. yesterday at a residence on the 200 block of Moore Avenue. The dog, described by witnesses as food-aggressive, reportedly bit a 2-year-old boy after he may have approached the animal's food bowl.

During the attempt to control the situation, while adults were trying to pull the dog away, it managed to escape from the house. As reported by the City of Pittsburgh, the boy who was bitten suffered "serious facial injuries" and was rushed to the hospital by EMS paramedics and is reported to be in stable condition.

The canine, a 2-year-old gray pit bull, remains at large following the incident in the Knoxville area. The search for the dog involved officers and Pittsburgh Animal Care and Control, but no success has been reported in locating it thus far.

Residents of Knoxville and the surrounding areas have been urged to be on the lookout and report any sightings of the animal to the Animal Care and Control emergency line at (412) 255-2935 or by calling 911, according to the police statement.
