Heads up, drivers: if you’re planning to navigate the roads around I-205 and the Abernethy Bridge this week, you’re in for a bit of a detour. Starting Monday, April 7, a series of lane reductions and ramp closures are kicking off due to the I-205 Abernethy Bridge Project, impacting OR 43, OR 99E, and I-205, according to Oregon Department of Transportation. These disruptions are slated to wrap up by Friday, April 11, so plan your commutes accordingly.
For those who tend to cruise on OR 99E, you'll find an overnight full closure smack dab between the northbound and southbound I-205 ramp interchange coming at you at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, the hinderance should lift by Sunday, April 13 at 8 a.m. And of course, such schedules are susceptible to change, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. Oregon Department of Transportation’s also dishing out some detour maps to help guide you through the construction maze, you can find the specifics on their website with maps for heading northbound or southbound on OR 99E, as well as for pedestrian pathways.
Starting April 7 through April 11, OR 99E will have overnight ramp closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to I-205 northbound, along with northbound lane closures. One lane in each direction will remain open. On OR 43, the northbound lane will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Clackamette Drive will have daytime flagging from Monday to Wednesday. I-205 will also see southbound shoulder closures between exits 9 and 10 during the day, acording to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
If you’re not in a vehicle, don’t think you’ve escaped the chaos. Pedestrians navigating OR 99E and OR 43 will need to follow detour routes as well, outlined on Oregon Department of Transportation’s page. So, whether you're on foot or behind the wheel, prepare for some redirection and, potentially, a longer trek. Remember, patience is a virtue — especially when roadwork is involved. As always, construction dates and the associated nuisances may shift, so keep that in mind,
