Drivers in the region are familiar with the congestion on US 1, and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) is working with the N.C. Turnpike Authority to find solutions to improve the corridor. This comes after years of project delays and rising costs.

According to the Town of Wake Forest website, the N.C. Turnpike Authority’s study presents four potential tolling options, including two to convert the corridor into an expressway and two to add express toll lanes. Each option has different impacts on surrounding networks and financial considerations.

To gather community input, CAMPO is hosting two public information sessions. These open-house style meetings will allow residents to interact directly with representatives from CAMPO, NCDOT, and the N.C. Turnpike Authority. The sessions are scheduled for April 30 at the Abbotts Creek Community Center and May 5 at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. These meetings provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and offer feedback on the project.
