Anglers and boaters who frequent the Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area will need to adjust their plans as the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced temporary closures. The fishing piers and boat launch on Island Road will be undergoing much-needed parking area repairs. These closures are not expected to be constant but will happen intermittently over approximately four weeks, as detailed in a statement released by LDWF yesterday.
Located 15 miles southeast of Houma off Louisiana Highway 665, Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area serves as a haven for fishing and hunting enthusiasts who, chasing waterfowl, deer, and other game, often find solace in the marshlands spread across Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. During the period of repairs, while waiting for completion, the public will inevitably experience limited access to the facilities they are accustomed to, including the boat launch and fishing piers.
While the repairs will surely cause some inconvenience, the LDWF asserts that the result will be improved parking facilities for the area's users. These enhancements are part of the department's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the usability of the WMA's infrastructure, ensuring better accessibility and experiences for all visitors in the long run. In their official announcement via Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries News, the agency detailed the scope and expected timeframe for the project.
