A Southern California man faces murder charges following an altercation in Pomona last month that led to another man's death, authorities said. The Pomona Police Department responded to an incident on March 26 in the area of West Holt Avenue and Short Street where a male victim required CPR after a fist fight, as reported by KTLA. The victim was transported to a local hospital in a critical condition and has since been placed on life support with dim prospects for survival.

The investigation by the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Unit led to the identification of the suspect, 41-year-old Oliver Jacobs Jr., who is now in custody. "The preliminary investigation revealed that two male adults were involved in a physical altercation at the location," the Pomona Police detailed in a Facebook post. During the fight, the victim fell and was rendered unconscious, and the suspect allegedly walked away from the scene.

Upon further investigation, the matter escalated to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which deemed that there was sufficient evidence to file murder charges against Jacobs. As of Tuesday, one count of murder under 187(a) PC has been filed against the Pomona resident.

No information about a possible motive or the use of a weapon during the incident has been released at this time. The ongoing investigation prompts authorities to seek assistance from the public. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Pomona Police Department directly, or to remain anonymous, call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline, or leave tips online as recommended by the KTLA report.
