A Pontiac man has been charged in connection with a shooting outside the Newman Court Apartments earlier this month that injured his former girlfriend. Timothy Suave Williams, 36, faces charges of assault with intent to murder, firearms possession by a prohibited person, and two counts of felony firearm, according to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald, as reported by the Oakland County’s official website.

According to The Oakland Press, authorities allege that Williams shot the victim in the left shoulder. Several people, including children, witnessed the incident, and the victim’s mother identified Williams, who is reported to have previously dated the victim.

Williams turned himself in to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday last week. His arrest was noted during a news conference highlighting a recent law enforcement operation in the area, according to Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.

“Gun violence like we see in this case is an epidemic that affects communities like Pontiac on an almost daily basis,” Prosecutor McDonald said in the Oakland County release. “We have a victim hospitalized and children fleeing from a gun fight in their neighborhood.” She added, “Pontiac deserves better and we will aggressively prosecute anyone who endangers residents with senseless violence.”

The charge of assault with intent to murder carries a possible life sentence. The other charges could result in additional prison time and fines. Officials noted that Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
