A Portland man, infamous for posting videos of his reckless driving escapades on social media, found himself under arrest after reporting a hit-and-run incident to the authorities. Oscar Burell Jr., 33, had been a subject of investigation since late March when police grew aware of his dangerous activities thanks to tips from the public and media reports. As per KGW, videos showed Burell engaging in various perilous stunts, including speeding and hanging out the window while driving his truck.
The climax of these events occurred just before lunchtime yesterday. Police were called to the scene of a hit-and-run on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. Burell himself had contacted 911, which brought the police directly to him. "When I watched the videos, I was shocked that he didn't crash," said Sgt. Kevin Allen conveys the risk involved in Burell's actions, according to the KGW report. Following the 911 call, police promptly arrested Burell on multiple charges, including three counts of reckless driving and first-degree criminal mischief.
The very act that led to his arrest was reportedly a confrontation with another driver, which resulted in Burell being sideswiped. This driver, after clashing with Burell, who had been double-parked, snatched the keys from Burell's truck and left the scene. Witnesses described the truck as having a handwritten sign with the words "Go around," which Nick Brown, a local business owner, recounted as the cause of the dispute to KGW.
Before his apprehension, the Portland Police had already been working on the case, tipped off by social media posts and a report by "BikePortland." His Instagram account "keepingitlittlike06" was cited as the repository for his rash exploits. Notwithstanding these events, no injuries were reported in the incident. The driver of the other vehicle had not been found yet, according to police disclosures in an interview with OPB. Meanwhile, Burell's 1994 GMC Sierra pickup truck has been towed, serving as evidence against the litany of charges he now faces.
