Lori Vallow Daybell, the woman previously convicted for a string of unsettling crimes, may soon see the closure of yet another chapter in her litany of court appearances, as per FOX 10 Phoenix, Arizona prosecutors have rested their case against her, the defense signaled on Wednesday an intention to follow suit, without bringing forward witnesses of its own.
The trial that has gripped the nation, now unfolding over seven days, saw the state calling upon 19 witnesses, presenting a slew of evidence implicating Vallow Daybell in an alleged gruesome conspiracy with her brother resulting in the death of her former spouse, Charles Vallow, in 2019, this trial's proceedings in Arizona take a back seat on Thursday to court preparation of jury instructions, as reported by AZ Family.
Vallow Daybell, who is serving as her attorney, expressed to the court her decision to rest without presenting further evidence or witnesses, but it's yet to be seen if she will take the stand in her defense on Monday when closing arguments are anticipated to commence, detailed timelines and text messages exchanged with her current husband Chad Daybell, laced with religious references and discussions about life insurance suggested otherwise, as brought to light during the trial.
The charges center around the supposed premeditated murder of Charles Vallow, notably after an altercation involving a baseball bat and a shooting by Vallow Daybell's now-deceased brother, Alex Cox, but her defense hinges on an assertion that the state has failed to provide "substantial evidence" for the accusations, as Vallow Daybell herself declared, "The state has failed to show substantial evidence for Count One: conspiracy to commit first-degree murder," arguing that evidence of self-defense by Alex Cox was more probable, despite the judge finding sufficient evidence for a possible conviction by a reasonable juror.
